Penelope Sky is the Californian author who has turned her writing into an online and offline sensation. She is a USA Today Bestselling Author and also a New York Times Bestseller Author who has sold more than a million copies of her books which are now being translated into multiple languages. A parallel could be drawn with the other successful women’s author of the Fifty Shades of Grey books, E L James.

The lingerie series of books, fifteen at the present count have been hugely successful and are propelling this talented author into the fast lane.

Fighter in Lingerie follows the obsession of a vicious crime lord, Bosco Roth, and his infatuation with a frightened woman. She is scared but he is not the type of person to give up easily.

General Franco’s closest confident, Carrero Blanco, is murdered by ETA. The killing is a major shock to the state, giving them a real belt.

Then in 2005 a gang of thieves break into the safe of a private company. The theft sends shockwaves through the powers of state. One of it’s greatest secrets is in jeopardy after the theft.
Antonio Alba, a member of the CNI is sent to discretely retrieve the contents. Time is not on his side as the sand slips through the hourglass. The Silk Stocking Murders by Anthony Berkeley

The Silk Stocking Murders by Anthony Berkeley, was first published in 1928 and is one of Berkeley’s earliest novels.

Born, Anthony Berkeley Cox in Watford in 1893 he attended Sherborne School and University College in Oxford. Like many of his contemporaries he served in the Army during World War I. He honed his writing skills working as a journalist for magazines such as Punch and The Humorist among others. In 1930 the Detection Club was founded in London by various popular mystery writers such as Berkeley, Freeman Wills Crofts and the great Agatha Christie.

From the 1940s onwards, he wrote for several of the major newspapers including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and the Manchester Guardian.

Anthony Berkeley Cox wrote under various pseudonyms, including Anthony Berkeley, Francis Iles and A. Monmouth Platts.

His novel, the Layton Court Mystery which was published in 1925 was his first novel. The amateur detective, Roger Sheringham, features here first and appeared in many later novels.

His novel ‘Before the Fact’ hit the silver screen as the 1941 classic film Suspicion. It starred Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

The Silk Stocking Murders novel is a masterpiece and unusual for it’s time to involve a serial killer.

Roger Sheringham, though a heavy drinker, was a superb, though flawed, detective. Frequently putting his trust, wrongly, in individuals and making repeated mistakes he had a knack of meandering his way to the truth.

The Silk Stocking Murders sees him trying to solve the disappearance of a vicar’s daughter in London. Sheringham is horrified to find that the young woman is dead. The girl was found hanging, her own silk stocking around her neck. Though her death has the appearance of a suicide, Sheringham knows of other deaths throughout London and he sees a pattern developing. He is convinced that it is the work of a crazed madman.

For it’s time this must have been a quite shocking and horrific tale of a psychotic killer lose on the streets of London. The use of lingerie, Ground-breaking and still enthralling after all of these years, the story of a rather unusually flawed sleuth is well worth the read. The Silk Stocking Murders is published by HarperCollins and is available on Amazon or at good bookstores.

The eye of the needle by Ken Follett

The Eye of the Needle is a WWII spy thriller written by Ken Follett. The fiction novel was first published in 1978 by Penguin and was originally called Storm Island. This book was Follett’s first success and in 1979 he won the Edgar Award for Best Novel from the Mystery Writers of America. The novel was made into a film in 1981 with Donald Sutherland.

During WWII the Allies tried to convince the Nazis that the D-Day landings were to be at Calais and not in Normandy. They made up a fictitious First United States Army Group (FUSAG) to this end, with fake tanks, buildings and dummy radio traffic to give the impression of an army ready to land at Calais. In 1940 London Henry Faber is a German spy, called the needle, die Nadel’ in German, named for the stilleto knife he uses to kill people. Faber kills his landlady after she catches him making a radio call to Germany. The espionage novel tells of David and his wife Lucy. He is an ex-RAF pilot who is diabled and they have moved to Storm Island off the coast of Scotland.

MI5 has recruited or hanged all German spies except Faber who is very cunning. Godliman and his assistant Bloggs work for MI5 and are trying to catch him.

Faber is sent by the Nazis to check FUSAG is real and he finds in fact that it is a deception. Faber then heads to Scotland to rendevous with a German Uboat to escape with the information back to Germany. Faber is tracked to Scotland by MI5. After stealing a boat to get to the sub he is shipwrecked on Storm Island. David and Lucy care for him but he kills David after he finds out about him being a spy. Lucy, who was unhappy in her marriage is getting out of the bath and about to put on her lingerie when Faber walks in and sees her naked. After this they fall for each other and Lucy sleeps with Faber Lucy finds her husband’s body and realizes that Faber has killed him. Faber tries to radio the Nazis information about FUSAG but Lucy blows the electricity in the cottage to cut the radio. Unable to send a radio message and unable to kill Lucy who he now loves, Faber tries to escape down the cliff to swim to the waiting U-boat. Lucy throws a rock down on him and after one hits him he falls to his death.

The RAF then attack the Uboat. MI5 send a false radio message with Faber’s call sign to trick the Germans into believing that the invasion will be at Calais. Bloggs comforts the Lucy and then eventually gets married to her.

Ken Follett is an enthrawlling writer and I would strongly recommend his novels to you.

Fifty Shades of Grey

This may be a novel and it may be fiction but it is certainly not to my taste. However, my wife and all her friends ‘rave’ about it and due to its incredible success I felt I should add it to my list of novels to discuss. The book of erotic fiction, 50 Shades of Grey by E.L. James, is surprising in its mainstream popularity given that it is a story involving such a succession of powerful, kinky sex scenes.

This is the story of a young woman, Anastasia Steele, and her obsession and love for a man who enjoys bondage and domination. 50 Shades of Grey has become the fastest-selling paperback since records began and has recently become the first ebook to break the one million sales figure. The plot describes the young heroine’s sexual submission to Christian Grey, a millionaire she barely knows. Mr Grey readily introduces her to his range of erotic master and slave fetishes and to his “Red Room of Pain”.

The book is said to have given bondage lingerie a boost in sales and has started a mini-baby boom. Some see the fiction books as porn while others describe it as romance, but what is sure is that it will help booksellers give books a good flogging! There are now two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. The novels have been a huge success.

Fifty Shades of Grey didn’t hold my attention but there are certainly a lot of people who can’t put this fiction book down.

Das Buch der erotischen Fiktion, 50 Shades of Grey von E.L. James, überrascht in seiner Mainstream-Popularität, da es sich um eine Geschichte handelt, die eine solche Abfolge von kraftvollen, versauten Sexszenen beinhaltet.

Dies ist die Geschichte einer jungen Frau, Anastasia Steele, und ihrer Besessenheit und Liebe zu einem Mann, der Bondage und Dominanz genießt. Das Buch soll Bondage-Dessous einen Umsatzschub beschert und einen Mini-Baby-Boom ausgelöst haben. Einige sehen die Belletristik als Pornos, während andere sie als Romantik beschreiben, aber sicher ist, dass es Buchhändlern helfen wird, Bücher ordentlich auszupeitschen! Es gibt jetzt zwei Fortsetzungen, Fifty Shades Darker und Fifty Shades Freed.

Fifty Shades of Grey hat meine Aufmerksamkeit nicht auf sich gezogen, aber es gibt sicherlich viele Leute, die dieses Belletristikbuch nicht aus der Hand legen können.
