The Bad Weather Friend by Dean Koontz is a masterful novel set in a strange world.

The story is of a guy who is just to nice for this world and who is a victim for that reason. Unable to look after himself …help comes in an unexpected form.

Mysterious forces are contriving to destroy poor Benny. But, Spike, is on hand to help in this supernatural fantasy novel. Spike is a seven foot tall mountain of power.

This is a strange read which is out of the norm for me. However, it is also very satisfying in that it pushes the boundaries and delves into an imaginary world from a novelist at the top of his game, Dean Koontz.

The group is being led by a mysterious figure known only as “The Panther,” who is a master of disguise and is able to evade detection.

Gabriel works with his team of agents to track down the Panther and his associates. They are able to gather intelligence on the group and their plans, but they struggle to find out where and when the attack will take place.

As the tension builds, Gabriel and his team are forced to race against the clock to stop the attack and prevent a major catastrophe. Along the way, they encounter many obstacles and challenges, including corrupt government officials and powerful enemies who are determined to stop them.

The novel is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The characters are well-developed and the plot is complex and intricate, with many twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. The thriller novel Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn was named as one of the best books of the year by The Chicago Tribune, Newsday, HuffPost, Newsday and the San Francisco Chronicle. It was also a #1 New York Times bestseller.


On their wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne comes home. His wife, Amy, is missing. Her disappearance hits the media whilst the police find evidence of a struggle at the property. The husband is portrayed as the prime suspect by the media.


The marriage had degraded over time and Nick cheated on his wife. That was a mistake!


The police begin to build a picture with their investigation as evidence points to a murder, committed by Nick.
It’s difficult to tell you more of the story without spoiling it – so I won’t.


Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is a great fiction read from a truly talented writer.


CNN named the Gone Girl book as one of the most influential books of the decade whilst Time and Entertainment weekly said it was one of the best books of the decade. The New York Times, O: The Oprah Magazine, USA Today, People and the Kansas City Star named it as one of the ten best books of the year.

The Key to Rebecca by Ken Follett

Ken Follett is one of my all time favourite authors and one I would aspire to be like if I were a writer.

His works are meticulously plotted, clever and historically accurate.

Ken Follett is truly a master of the craft of fiction writing. And one of his finest works is ‘The Key to Rebecca’.

A clever thriller set during World War Two in the sands of North Africa. A ruthless spy, Alex Wolff, is Erwin Rommel’s ace in the hole. But he is tracked relentlessly by British officer called Vandam who is assisted by a beautiful woman, Elene.

The Key to Rebecca is well worth a read and is one of the finest thriller novels I have enjoyed.

Talking book or Audiobooks as they are known have had immense market growth in the last twenty years.

An audiobook is a recording of a book which is read out loud. When a narrator or voice over actor reads the complete text it is termed, unabridged, whereas shorter versions are described as abridged.

Spoken audio recordings of books began almost 90 years ago but has seen vast and sustained growth in the last 40 years.

Since the mid-90s the Audio Publishers Association has run the Audie Awards for audiobooks. For the industry it is their, Oscars ceremony. which is equivalent to the Oscar for the audiobook industry. Normally it runs in conjunction with BookExpo America.

Audio has been helped by advances in technology and particularly by tablets, smartphones and multimedia entertainment systems in cars,.

Many listeners tune in to talking books in their cars, while exercising or while performing mundane tasks like hoovering the carpet.

India is one of the most exciting markets for talking books with possibly the greatest growth potential for audiobooks.

Many people in the cities of India face long commutes and audiobooks are a great way to pass the time.

Many commuters prefer business books to listen to as audio books, though fiction, including crime, espionage, political fiction and thrillers, re an increasingly growing market.

Now Audio books are being made in the various Indian languages. The increase in popularity is also fuelled by the increasingly diverse and high quality fiction being written by Indian authors such as: R.K Narayan, Nirad C. John Le Carré’s espionage thriller and his last and twenty-fifth novel, Agent Running in the Field, is a real page turner.

Veteran British Secret Intelligence Service agent, Nat, believes that he has little time left with the Service. He is given a job as the threat grows from Moscow Centre. The agent over ‘The Haven’, a substation of London General. The staff are not of the highest calibre except a young woman, Florence.

The novel has strong political and contemporary overtones and may not be to everyone’s taste.

Ed, Nat’s badminton opponent and employee of a media agency is a catalyst for the story and the dangers that ensue.

Agent Running in the Field, by John Le Carré was a great writer and a titan in the espionage genre. Well worth a read this Christmas holiday!
